Basics - Topics and Links

Explains the system of using topics and links to create Web sites form a Word document. Specifically, explains the absolute basics.

Don't confuse Topic and Links! Try this approach...

Step One

  1. Create new document using EASYHH.DOT as a document template (File | New)
  2. Write some text in your document
  3. Process (Do not create any Topics or Links at this point)
  4. Click Results

You should now have a single page HTML file. Do this before progressing. If you do not get an HTML file EasyHTML/Help is not installed properly.

Second Step (only after doing the above)

  1. Structure your document into chunks. It is best to use the Heading 1 style (but not necessary ) for major headings in you document
  2. Position on each heading in turn and make a topic with each one, use short names such as One Two Three. Each Topic will become a separate Web page.

(A topic begins with a Topic heading and ends when it reaches the next Topic heading or end of document.)
  3. Process
  4. Click Results

You will see the first Topic loaded into your browser. The next thing to do is to create links to navigate to the other Topics.

Third Step

  1. After you have created your document and created Topics as in Step One and Two, go on to create links.
  2. Process
  3. Click Results... a Web site!
