Basics - Topics and Links
Explains the system of using topics and links to create Web sites form a Word document. Specifically, explains the absolute basics.
Don't confuse Topic and Links! Try this approach...
Step One
- Create new document using EASYHH.DOT as a document template (File | New)
- Write some text in your document
- Process (Do not create any Topics or Links at this point)
- Click Results
You should now have a single page HTML file. Do this before progressing. If you do not get an HTML file EasyHTML/Help is not installed properly.
Second Step (only after doing the above)
- Structure your document into chunks. It is best to use the Heading 1 style (but not necessary ) for major headings in you document
- Position on each heading in turn and make a topic with each one, use short names such as One Two Three. Each Topic will become a separate Web page.
(A topic begins with a Topic heading and ends when it reaches the next Topic heading or end of document.)
- Process
- Click Results
You will see the first Topic loaded into your browser. The next thing to do is to create links to navigate to the other Topics.
Third Step
- After you have created your document and created Topics as in Step One and Two, go on to create links.
- Process
- Click Results... a Web site!
