Memory Problems
What could be going wrong when there is in fact the memory available.
Word often reports 'disk drive full' and 'out of memory' even when this is not the case. Check the following:
- You have VSHARE.386 loaded
- You have removed all the TMP files that can be left hanging around. If you have 32K of these Word will run out of memory!
- If you are using the Word master document feature stop using it!
- Take off the 'allow fast saves' setting in Tools | Options | Save. Out of memory?
- You have the TMP and TEMP environment variables set to a valid directory. This is normally done in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Office apps gobble up memory and are unpredictable at the best of times. It is often a good idea to close Word and all other apps from time to time to prevent Word form loosing its memory! Restarting the computer often works... as we ALL know!
